Really, there are things you learn as a candidate.
What is it like: fun; bad; happy; confusing? What is it like to have another being in your head all the time? This drags in several rider volunteers to talk. This class will also sometimes include the basics of flights: they are accepted; you may end up with someone of a gender you do not like; they mean nothing. The weyrling class on this is more in depth and covers more of the dragon aspect as well.
Being Dragonless:
Yes, you do learn about it as long as there is a dragonless rider available who will talk. If there isn’t one, there are hides from the infirmary that describe cases where rider’s lost their dragons and what happened to the riders. If a true one can not be brought in these hides are.
These two classes are to make sure a candidate truly wants to be dragonrider despite all the things involved.
What the colors mean:
This one is just what it says. It’s a class on what ranks and such each color has and that the ranks are there /for a reason/. The flighty blues, greens, and browns need the golds, bronzes, and browns that are more stable just as the stable need the flighty. No color is better than another. This class also explains the ramifications of Impressing a metallic dragon, in regards to responsibilities and duties.
Sands visits:
About three seven-days after clutching the queen will usually be calm enough and the eggs hard enough that the first visit can happen. This one is merely to see the clutch and talk with the rider of the dragon whose clutch is on the sands.
About a month after clutch the gold can usually be convinced to allow a touching. If the candidates are lucky they may even be allowed one in the fourth week and one in the fifth and final day of hardening.
Protocol:
What you are supposed to do on the sands: no runner play; be respectful; no firelizards with candidates; et all.
